Katya Revenko completed her degree in Fashion Design and Garment Construction in Kiev, Ukraine, where she enjoyed work as a costume designer/stylist for television stations, capturing first prize in the Rochas Costume Design competition. Such a win opened doors to working with Leo Burnett Worldwide where she styled various commercials and music videos, one of which reached MTV Europe Top Ten Chart.
Since arriving in Canada in 2002, Katya has quickly established herself as a force within the fashion world. She has since designed costumes for feature films, successfully launched her own apparel line under the label ‘Desperately Different’, won the Elle Canada and Toronto Fashion Incubator’s New Labels competition and was awarded Style Magazine’s Fashion Export Award, thus making her New Designer of the Year.
Katya designs for an active, expressive metropolitan woman, who embodies a boldness for living life passionately, and whose busy lifestyle demands adaptable pieces that will compliment her essence day or night. For Spring 2009, Katya has responded to the needs of that special consumer with a clever, luxurious, yet very affordable ‘all knit’ collection. A fascinating fusion of natural, organic and high tech wickable, quick dry and UV protective fabrics are masterfully mixed and shaped to slide easily over a woman’s body. Inspired by the acclaimed documentary film, Water , this fresh palate takes on an ethereal quality through usage of luminescent neutrals, misty lavenders and aqua tones, that blend somewhere between water and sky. Every piece is washable and as light as air.
And that’s not all. This ever-changing brand, all made in Canada, will now have four dynamic line releases each year. This will provide retailers with a constant flow of fresh looks that are unmistakably Katya’s own – all available to view and order at the recently opened private showroom in Toronto.
In October Katya Revenko will be launching an extensive month long billboard and video ad campaign within Toronto. Through the support of Zoom Media, this campaign will directly link the Desperately Different brand to the Katya Revenko ‘woman of today’.
With Katya’s trademark ‘soft tailoring’, everything she touches has a sense of richness …every piece is blessed with surprisingly ‘edgy’ elements. However, her special gift to every woman is a flattering shapely, yet forgiving fit that carries a woman everywhere.
